WHERE WAS THE SONG RECORDED? Sacramento, CA – The House Of Hansen, The Track Shack Studio.

WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? CDBaby, iTunes and Amazon.com

WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Gospel, Inspirational, Spiritual

WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” is about knowing that the Holy Spirit, God or “The One” – whatever your higher power is to you – is always there lifting and supporting you.

WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? I was motivated by the great Tomas A. Dorsey, “the father of gospel music” and the music director at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Chicago for many years (1932 – 1970) who composed the song “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” in response to his inconsolable bereavement at the death of his wife in childbirth and his infant son. This beloved song has given inspiration to many over the years and is published in more than forty languages. I want my rendition to continue to inspire and lift people up!

WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS, SONG STRUCTURE/WRITING TECHNIQUE, UNUSUAL RECORDING METHOD DID YOU USE? We used a B3 Organ y’all – the king of Gospel! The contemporary arrangement was the mastermind of Tony Jones, II who has worked with other gospel artists (e.g. Tonéx).

DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? No.

DESCRIBE YOUR AUDIENCE: This track and the music on the CD – All Is Well – is enjoyed by Gospel fans, regardless of religious affiliation. My audience consists of “old school” gospel lovers, New Thought Gospel fans and everyone in between. I reach out to positive and inspirational music fans, particularly children and young adults.

WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? My music appeals to all cross-sections of the community. My fans reflect all cultures, races, age-groups, and religion affiliations.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? Sunday morning services at many different churches, Gospel and music festivals, benefit concerts (e.g. benefit concert – November 2009 – for Francis House which services the homeless in the Sacramento region). I also do concerts with other artists (e.g. “Love Is In The Air” concert March 2009 and encore concert coming up in March 2010 – contemporary love songs) as well as Jazz and R&B concerts (e.g. Bajan Present summer series, 2009).

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

Recording my debut CD – All Is Well

Gospel Gives Back, a benefit concert for Francis House with the Spirit Wings Choir (November 2009).

Hearing my tracks played on FM 103.5 “The Gospel Express” and other radio stations (Chicago, Atlanta, Sacramento) for the first time.

WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010? I’m busy performing at many church services, concerts, planning to begin recording my next CD. My plans are to performance at Unity Village in Missouri soon and I’m working on performance at churches in Washington D.C. and working at House of Blues Gospel Brunch – Las Vegas.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… Ever evolving and changing. Digital technology allows a musician to emphasis single recordings for downloads. Musicians who survive working in the business will be lovers of music first and foremost as well as flexible and creative!

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? When someone comes up to me during a performance or when I speak to someone who has heard my tracks and they say they were touched, healed, or in some way moved by my music ministry, I know that I have been successful. As a soloist/singer, I “speak” to people so they can hear the good that is in store for them in ways that open them up to receive, love, grow and share the same with others.

WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? All of Chris Botti’s music, “Alright” – Ledisi; “Ain’t Nobody” – Chaka Kahn; “Feeling Good” – Michael Bublé; “Besame Mucho” – Andrea Bocelli; “A Song For You” – Elliott Yamin.

NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU ARE CHAMPIONING: Heather Headley, Melinda Watts, Aretha Franklin, Martha Munizzi, Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Smokie Norful and Mary J. Blige.
