Describe your nominated work. It’s a feel good gospel song about waking up.

Did you use any unusual effects or instruments in this recording? No.

Were there any happy accidents while in the studio, or did everything go as planned? There are always happy accidents. That’s why you pay killer studio musicians to come in and help shape the songs and give them life. There were many moments that came from the bands interpretations as a unit coming together.

How did you raise the funds for this project? How long do you expect it will take to recoup your out-of-pocket recording expenses? I have made every one of my 9 indie records with investors and have recouped within 10 months of the records release on every release.

Why did you choose to submit this work to The 11th IMAs? Because it is a hand clapping fun gospel song!

What’s your definition of success and how will you know when you’ve achieved it? Making a living at what I love to do

How will you leverage your IMA honors to achieve your career goals? I won’t leverage it. I will celebrate it if I win and keep doing what I’m doing. It’s an honor!

Who’s sitting in your audience and what makes your fans unique? A wide range of age and backgrounds and I would classify them as thinkers.

What is your guilty pleasure on the road? Any close calls or mishaps while on tour? None really.

Who are your musical heroes & influences? That is a pretty wide variety from U2 to the Brand New Heavies to Shawn Colvin to The Blind Boys of Alabama.

Are there any songs you wish you wrote and why? Just about any Dylan song…no need to ask why.

What artists are you listening to that would surprise your fans? The Brand New Heavies.

How do you discover new music? Do you buy music or are you content with streaming? I buy actual CDs cause I still love to hold something in my hand. And when I buy something online I tend to forget about it.
