Colleen Costello is a natural talent. A writer and performer, her rootsy mix of electronic and acoustic music is as fresh as a carrot out of the ground: hose washed, sweet and gritty. Imagine Nine Inch Nails meets the Cranberries and they move to the country to record in a solar powered studio. Whether she is playing with voice, guitar, keys or drums, her scope of experience and love of sound in all shapes and sizes makes her one of the most unique musicians you’ll have the pleasure of listening to.

…………………….

I grew up in the sticks with church choir and the beach boys on vinyl burning harmonies in my mind. Awe-fully drank up pop when dad hooked up a radio in my room for my 12th birthday… aquired a Led Zeplin tape for my first car. In high school I bought the SmashingPumpkins, Nirvana and U2, one album of each. Mixed tapes from boys made up the vast majority of my musical education (and actually that is probably still true). Learned to sing traditional Japanese karaoke while travelling, and some blessed soul introduced me to Portishead. Thought Ani DiFranco was too angry at first but grew to love her as I grew less satisfied with the world around me.
Always thought i would grow up to be Sarah McLachlan’s backup singer until i heard Alanis Morisette and realized you can sing about whatever the hell you want! Lamb, Pink and Mogwai are current inspirations though i don’t actually listen to music that much, i got enough of it running around in my head…

Colleen Costello draws on many experiences playing with bands such as disco-punk Gaijin and jalopy band Mobile Couch in Victoria, Toronto based folk-band Walk Left Stand Right and pop princesses Lucy. She has played many venues including C’est What, Hugh’s Room, The Church at Berkeley, Mariposa Festival, TV talk show Daytime and many Toronto festivals, including Pride Day. As well as co-producing Walk Left Stand Right Bums a Smoke and producing solo EP Detangle, she has done recording and backup sessions with Don Kerr, and current project Glazed Over was created with engineer/producer Mitch Girio (King Apparatus).
