Describe your nominated work: “Promises” is a labor of passion and sentiment. I wanted the song to reflect the strength of man and the promise of a better world. I used violins, violas and cellos & also the soprano voice to praise the feeling. Caro’s voice is sensual and evocative. An exciting sound that conveys an incredible force. music that breathes freedom of encouragement from beginning to end.
Why did you choose to submit this work to The 10th IMA’s?: I think it’s very important to raise awareness in the United States about my music. I know many fans of music “New Age” here in the U.S., and these awards are very important and we all know the reputation of The IMA’s.
Did you use any unusual effects or instruments in this recording? Besides using the violins, violas, cellos and piano. I used synthesizers and stringed Indian instrument called Uru, which sounds at the beginning of the track. I also used the tables are a percussion instrument of India.
Were there any happy accidents while in the studio, or did everything go as planned? Of course!, Caro and I had to record many times the voices because although record is simple, the day of recording were not quite tuned! haha We laugh a lot!
Did fans help you fund this project? Fans have always been faithful to my music, but for now they haven’t helped finance my projects. The best funding that I can obtain of them is their confidence and support.
Who’s sitting in your audience? Especially those who like to listen to relaxing music but that is at once energetic, perhaps they are people who want to get away from abstraction and concerns for a moment. This style of music is followed by many people of spirit balanced.
What makes your fans unique? My fans are unique because their support, advocacy and passion is unlimited. Meeting Fans of my music in all corners of the world like Egypt, India, United States, Europe, Argentina, Ecuador …. is wonderful support and the messages I receive daily. They are the only force that helps me to continue in this difficult world of music. All the achievements that artists get is because of the fans who follow us. The artists without the fans would not get anything. Without them we would not exist. THANKS SO MUCH my Fans!!!!
Are there any songs you wish you wrote? By far “Return To Innocent or Gravity Of Love” by Enigma and “Tubular Bells” by Mike Oldfield. I think they are masterpieces!
What artists are you listening to that would surprise your fans? Loreena Mckennitt, Bliss, Ron Allen, Enigma, Nacho Sotomayor, Mike Oldfield & Terry Olddfield, Karl Jenkins, Era, Gwendal, Lúnasa, Rare Folk, Enya, Chris Spheeris
What is your dream show lineup? Playing together on stage, Mike Oldfield, Enigma, & Jean Michel Jarre.
What are your guilty pleasures on the road?: The personal satisfaction that music creates in me. When I consider that my work is able to create feelings in others.
Any close calls or mishaps while on tour? At the moment I have not had any accidents
Thank God!
Do you have any rituals before you go on stage? Relax, relax, relax…. Lol
Should music be free? This is a good question. Certainly the music is an art and art is something public, but as literature and books, music requires time, effort and money than just selling our music can help us to continue investing in new projects, and that if the music could not make money and generate cost only artists, many of us couldn’t keep our records.
How has digital affected your career? Digital stores have revolutionized the way we buy music and listen. The music industry, initially, opted for the new digital stores. But the Internet is a double edged sword. On one side is the most effective advertising medium that exists today, but it is also the most harmful and that piracy causes us, especially the independent artists many losses. I suppose that eventually the situation will change.
Are digital singles vs. full albums the future of music? Never asked this myself. It really is an interesting option. Selling a single and not the full album in stores digital, piracy may decrease because it will harder to get the disc digitally.
Finish this sentence: The music industry is… in decline because of the lack of awareness & ethics of the industry and some consumers.
