WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Hard Rock
WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? There are several legends associated to “The House Of The 7 Smokestacks.” They date from the 16th and 17th century. All of them involve a beautiful woman, the lust of a powerful man and the madness and death of her, who haunts since then the House. The house was built by a knight of Felipe II (King of Spain from 1556 to 1598) in 1574 as a wedding gift for her daughter. The king developed a crush on her and he sent her husband to the Flandes War, where he died. The widow turned mad and one morning appeared dead in her bed. Her corpse disappeared in mysterious circumstances and the people from the town assured they could see a woman walking along the 7 smokestacks up in the roof, hitting herself in her chest and disappearing.
Years later, it is told a young and beautiful lover of Felipe II was forced to marry an old and rich merchant, committing suicide the night of the wedding. People told they can hear her in the basement, playing with the gold coins that were the wedding gift from the king.
Another history recounts that the illegitimate daughter of a king of Spain was locked there since childhood, always watched on, turning mad and dying young.
WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? When we created the songs, we had an objective. All of them should be potential singles. So when we submitted to the IMA the decision was tough! At the end, we submitted six songs and the album was also selected nominee as best Hard Rock / Metal album, so I think probably we made it right!
Anyway, I have to say that “The House of the 7 Smokestacks” is a catchy and magical song, with a great rhythm that would capture the interest of the people as soon as they heard it. And the music video is great!
WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? We don’t employ unusual instruments but we love the sound of the vintage amplifiers, sound effects, guitars, drums. They match very well with the sound we look for. Regarding the dynamic to write our songs, we do it in the rehearsal room, integrating the contribution of the four musicians in the creation of the songs.
DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT?
The fans helped us with this project in a lot of ways:
- Distributing promotional material in the cities where we would have a gig
- Visiting pubs, rock bar and convincing the owners to play our music, our music videos
- Helping us with the social network (both the Eldorado Facebook page and the blog are managed by fans)
-And of course, their support to the band in every moment. Some of them have made 500km to come with the band when first playing in a new town. That’s support!
WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? The audience we have is quite broad, from people that love Rock to Hard Rock and Metal. Our fans love Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother, Deep Purple, Foo Fighters… you got the idea.
WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? Their love for the music and the way they enjoy our concerts with us as much as we do.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? A venue full of people that know your songs and love live music.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE BANDS’ MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? I would say being nominated in two categories (Hard Rock/Metal Album and Song) in the 9th annual Independent Music Awards program was a very special moment for the band. Also, signing an agreement with Bad Reputation will boost the band in whole Europe. After being in discussion with several labels and none of them convincing us, Bad Reputation took contact with us. We love the bands they have on their roster and the promotional work they are performing for them in Europe (all of them have tours in Europe, it must mean something!).
WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010? The first part of the year, we will be touring in Spain. We already have several dates fixed in different states and more to come! The album will be launched in Europe by the end of February, so we will be promoting it in the following months with interviews and special presentation gigs in Paris (March 30), Berlin and London. We are now in conversation to organize a tour in France and Germany for next autumn. And of course, the USA! We have just recently sent ones of albums to college and Rock radios here. We hope they will see how awesome we are and play our music. If the response is positive and people like it, we would organize a tour for June/July 2010. We are absolutely open to all the ideas, proposals and options.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS….. Currently evolving and trying to find a balance between the need to provide the people an easy, organized and inexpensive access to the music and the sustainability of the music industry so new music and bands of great quality may be guaranteed.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? Being able to live by doing music, creating new songs and having great gigs with people as enthusiastic with your music as yourself.
WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? Believe or not, I haven’t an IPOD. I know it’s strange these days, but I still listen to the music like the old times. I love vinyl and the beautiful big covers, I love the contrast between A side and B side as if they were a different work in a same album. I miss these kinds of things in the new technologies.
I am quite open with the music, among my recurrent one you would find the Beatles White Album, Bowie, some Zappa. But, I think the most surprising to our fans would be bolero music and some old records from Latin-American singers, sad and beautiful music.
NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU ARE CHAMPIONING: I would champion all the new bands that have great songs, dedication and passion and that are currently fighting to be able to make their music heard. A real chance for them to let people decide if they like their music or not. I am sure they are a lot of bands in this situation. I can tell you some of the Spanish ones: El Gran BoNoBo, Red Marks and Electric Riders.
