Describe your nominated work: “Back To Back” is a song inspired by the concept of rivalry between ones conscience and ones animalistic instincts and desires, i.e. self control.
Why did you choose to submit this work to The 10th IMA’s? “Back To Back” is a catchy song and has proven a real favourite from crowds at gigs and live shows.
Did you use any unusual effects or instruments in this recording? Yes the Vibraphone.
Did fans help you fund this project: No.
Who’s sitting in your audience? All ages, anyone who appreciates, supports and enjoys my music.
What makes your fans unique? They are all from different age groups and sub-cultures yet they enjoy the same sound of Georgi Kay.
Are there any songs you wish you wrote? “Black Sheep” by Metric and any tune by The Horrors.
What artists are you listening to that would surprise your fans? I listen to most music genres and appreciate anyone who has the passion and commitment to create an original piece of work. Lately though I’ve been listening to metal bands such as Drowning Pool, Cancer Bats and Suicide Silence.
What is your dream show lineup? To play with all the artists that inspire me and that I admire, Sarah Blasko, The Horrors, Florence & The Machine, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and Marina & The Diamonds.
What are your guilty pleasures on the road? None as of yet, but the time will come.
Do you have any rituals or routines before you go on stage? I tend to bite my nails and fiddle with my hair whilst planning what I’m going to say to the audience.
Should music be free? Sometimes.
How has digital affected your career? It has taken my music to a broader audience and has brought that audience closer to me.
Are digital singles vs. full albums the future of music? Maybe.
Finish this sentence: The music industry is… something I want to be a major part of.
