Greg Cooney performs family/kid oriented music as well as songs adult can appreciate. For Kid’s shows, he performs original songs and stories with LOTS of audience participation. He has learned that adults love to have fun as well so he captivates audiences of all ages.
As an entertainer, Greg Cooney performs his original fun filled music for a wide range of family audiences. He involves the entire audience in his performances.
Greg’s songs can also be heard on the Internationally Telly Award winning children’s PBS TV show “Li’l Rhody” on Rhode Island PBS.
Greg travels throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic States performing concerts and presenting workshops related to music , laughter, education, and the environment.
As a songwriter, Greg Cooney has written over 120 songs for a wide range of listeners and has released four albums of original songs for children and the young at heart.
“If my songs were too obnoxious, parents wouldn’t want to listen to them.” Cooney said. “I write my music for the parents as well.”
Greg’s wast album “Won’tcha Get Off The Couch” was released in May of 2005.
Bio:
Greg Cooney grew up in Maryland and has been singing for over thirty years. He started his career performing in coffee houses with his twin brother at the age of thirteen. Greg’s life has been surrounded with music. His mother was a Rockette and his father was the captain of the men’s glee club at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in the 1940s. From 1979 to 1986, Greg entertained primarily for college audiences. He was often billed as a stand-up musical comedian. Since earning his Bachelors degree in music education in 1986 he has been composing, recording and performing his original children’s music in the Mid-Atlantic stated and New England. Despite his life long struggle with learning disabilities, Greg earned his Masters Degree in Education with a concentration in media and technology from Salisbury State University in 1994.
Greg has been teaching music in public schools for 25 years. In 1999 Greg and his family moved to Rhode Island. He is currently teaching high school choir and drama at a private school in Rhode Island. Cooney teaches with the philosophy that through music, young people can develop a positive self-image and learn how to get along with others as they discover their inner gifts and talents.
In 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007, Greg performed as a touring artist for the Rhode Island Summer Program in 60 libraries throughout RI and MA.
Greg used stories, songs, movement, and plenty of fun activities as he guided kids through adventures in reading.
He is currently writing the music for and co-producing a children’s TV show for Rhode Island PBS called Li’l Rhody.
