When the sounds of Hot Southern Soul infused with innovative electronic elements, hip-hop, jazz and house come to life int the hands of the unparelleled legacy of Memphis’ exceptional musicianship…They BURN to the sound called HotHouseGruv! HotHouseGruv is what you get when exceptional talents collaborate to break the boredom of cover tune gigs! This high energy Memphis group was born out of artists need for broader, more colorful expression. The brainchild of Grammy-nominated lyricist and soul/dance producer W. Darrell Murray aka MDSoul, HotHouseGruv represents the collaboration of Memphis’ best studio musicians and artist. MDSoul initially contracted internationally acclaimed soul singer, Valencia Robinson, while producing two independent musical projects (one neo-soul, one house/dance). With the completion of the projects approaching, the challenge of how to present the music took centerstage. Together the two created an outlet…. Enter HotHouseGruv! Named as a take off of the underground sweat boxes used by Mid-south Chuchalissa Indians to drive away evil spirits, HotHouseGruv is a refreshing blend of hiphop, jazz, soul, funk and house infused rhythms surrounding colorful heart pleas and mantras like anthems proclaiming self-love, self-expression and release to enjoy life as it comes. Intense and energetic, performances produce an often comedic insight of our world as seen through the musical eyes of these visionaries. For many, HotHouseGruv is considered “a Down South breath of fresh air”. Band members have performed with and/or shared the stages with artists as the Funk Brothers, Billy Joel, Rust Taft, Patty Austin, Micheal English, Jennifer Holiday, Howard Hewett, Peabo Bryson, Shirley Brown, Preston Shannon, J Blackfoot, Shirley Ceasar, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
