WHERE WAS SONG RECORDED? Our studio, in Nashville
WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? Most online and “brick and mortar” music retailers; iTunes, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Barnes & Noble, Tower, Napster, Rhapsody and in USA Christian stores through Integra kiosks and all major Christian bookstores.
WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? This project has been described as Pop, inspirational, singer/songwriter and modern worship in reviews.
WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? It’s about losing my life to find it.
WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? “Glorify” has been a radio hit for me in 2009, and was in the Top 5 on Billboard when we submitted it. I had a hunch it might do well here, too.
WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? Nothing out of the ordinary on this track.
DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? No
WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE: It’s varied. I have listeners on Internet radio from all over the world, with ages from young kids to adults. People who view the world through some form of Christian lens seem to resonate with where this project is coming from. “Glorify” stayed at #5 for months in Latin America, in rotation in France, and the project is in English. Go figure!
WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? I think that people connect with this project at a personal level because I wrote and recorded these songs from that place. I get a lot of feedback from people who are coming through hard times and find hope in the songs, the honesty of the lyrics. The simplicity of the approach. So, in that sense, I guess what makes them unique is that they seem to really connect with these songs, as more of a soundtrack for their lives, and not just another song on their player. It’s something for which I am very grateful.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? Anywhere people are really listening and ready to connect, house concerts to large venues. I enjoy it all.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? Well, this entire year really. We launched I.P.O. Records officially in May of 2009. We are closing the year with two top ten singles, the debut single, “Glorify,” spending 14 weeks in the Top 10 and seven weeks in the Top 5 on Billboard Soft AC/Inspirational radio, peaking at #2. My current Christmas single broke the CMW top ten in its second week out. The music video for “Glorify” just dropped last week. It’s been an exciting year.
WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010? We just released a music video for “Glorify” this month, which is being serviced to relevant video shows by our publicist now and is already grabbing immediate adds (you can check it out at www.johnmandeville.com). Glorify is being re-worked right now for A/C Christian radio, and a second single will be released in the first quarter of 2010 to Soft AC. I’m in the studio, carving a second Christian release and (hopefully) a general market record for 2010. We’re also actively working on a 2010 “We Belong to Heaven” tour in the USA, U.K. and Australia. We’re planning to meet a lot of our new friends in person during 2010!
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS….. On life support.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? Authenticity and waking up to a life you actually want to live.
WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? Nickelback (I’m a Mutt Lange fan, I admit it).
NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU ARE CHAMPIONING: Nameless Faceless Tribe
