WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? My music is available on iTunes, Amazon.com, www.myspace.com/lou601 and www.reverbnation.com/louwriter.
WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Soul
WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? “Dream Girl” is about the idea of the perfect woman. She does what she is supposed to. She is there with everything I go through. She is more than a woman to me, more than the average dream girl.
WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? This song is by far one of the most diverse songs on my album. It’s uplifting, yet inspirational. And most of all it pays tribute to our queens, strong women all over the world.
WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? It’s a standard song with two verses three choruses and a bridge. The arrangement is very soothing and Caribbean-like using bells, chimes, congo drums and xylophones.
DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? Yes. This particular project was funded by Ace Rock Entertainment, me, and the thousands of fans that listen to my music and appreciate the Lou Writer movement. Without them, this would be impossible.
WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? My audience is culturally diverse and from different nationalities and ethnic groups. Music has no boundaries and no color, so my fans range from the state of Mississippi to the United States and even overseas in the UK.
WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? From Classical musicians to Punk rockers, my music breaks that definitive barrier and brings forth a union of fans that not only appreciate my variation of music, but who I am as an artist.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? My favorite places to play include S.O.B.’s and B.B. Kings in New York, Jazz Festival in Jamaica, and Freelon’s and Touch Night Club back home in Mississippi.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? I would have to say singing background for Lyfe Jennings was by far the most memorable achievement in my career thus far. That experience taught me most of the knowledge that I still use now. I learned the odds and ends of the music business and how to be successful
WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010? My album, Phases of Love, is slated to be released this year and Ace Rock Entertainment is working on a distribution deal.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… Becoming more watered down and over-saturated with amateur artists whose intentions are not to express their real life and truthful experiences, but to write a catchy hook to a tight beat. Real music very rarely exists. Music with realistic content and relative meaning is very scarce among artist.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? Success can only be defined by the person that seeks to attain what he/she has sought out to accomplish. What is success to me may not be success to the next purpose. To me, true success will never be accomplished because while I am living, my task of saving each adolescent or young adult will never be achieved. Success is using my music to influence and impact the lives of people and encourage them through my struggle and what I have been through to look toward a brighter future.
WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? Music on my iPod ranges from Beyonce’, Rhianna, Neyo, Usher, and Jay-Z to Taylor Swift, Shakira, Tobey Keith, Jackie Wilson and Shania Twain, just to name a few.
NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU ARE CHAMPIONING: Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Sam Cook, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Smokie Robinson, Chaka Khan, Lauryn Hill, Usher, Boys II Men, Jamie Foxx, Beyonce’, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Queen Latifah.
