HOME BASE: Paris & Thionne (Auvergne), France

GENRE: Singer-Songwriter

CATEGORY ENTERED: Short Form Music Video

WORK SUBMITTED: “Blood And Thunder”

ARTISTS FEATURED: Tim Mooney of Mark Eitzel’s American Music Club (Drums)

LABEL: Unsigned

INFLUENCES: Back in times, it ranges from the old Mississippi blues era (Memphis Slim, Sleepy John Eastes) to progressive and psychedelic music of the 70s (King Crimson, Pink Floyd) to classical music and modern jazz & avant-garde (Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Fluxus, John Coltrane, Miles Davis)

DESCRIBE YOUR NOMINATED WORK: The music video is the visual story of director Tobias Stretch (Aniboom Radiohead Animation Contest Winner), who was free from my side to arrange a plot around the Spoken Word structure of the song.

“Blood And Thunder” is a well-produced and recorded piece with very interesting production and arrangement textures. The layers are mixed well and give the song a very classic, experimental mood. It is different yet familiar in a retro -”trippy” sort of way. …Very creative songwriting.

“Definitely avant-garde!’’ (ATLANTIC MUSIC CONFERENCE 2007 – spotlight)

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT THIS WORK TO THE 10TH IMA’S? The video of the song “Blood And Thunder’’ was highlighted on HD Fest, Los Angeles & featured on youtube.com, aniboom.com, Warner Bros TV and became a blog buzz since it was released. A lot of press attention was given for it’s outstanding character, so I was encouraged to submit.

DID YOU USE ANY UNUSUAL EFFECTS OR INSTRUMENTS IN THIS RECORDING? There is a field recording of a fire engine in the song, as I use often sound collages in my songs.

WERE THERE ANY HAPPY ACCIDENTS WHILE IN THE STUDIO, OR DID EVERYTHING GO AS PLANNED? Concentration is king.

DID FANS HELP YOU FUND THIS PROJECT? Generally a big thanks to all my fans, but a special thanks to Mr Rhida Mazzoun, who supported me so generous with funds.

WHO’S SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? Nice people

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM SHOW LINEUP? I was lucky enough to work with some named musicians in the past.

WHAT ARE YOUR GUILTY PLEASURES ON THE ROAD? …to be on the road

DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS BEFORE YOU GO ON STAGE? I meditate & do tai-chi

SHOULD MUSIC BE FREE? My friend, Bob Katz, a mastering engineer known for his sophisticated audiophile work said once: “Music is the last freedom in our world.”

HOW HAS DIGITAL AFFECTED YOUR CAREER? A career is not affected of any technological source, I think, although the web serves independent artists with new ways of promotional tools; if it comes to recording, digital programming is a great opportunity of editing, but in the base a sound killer, a sophisticated recording should resort to both worlds, analogue & digital.

ARE DIGITAL SINGLES VS. FULL ALBUMS THE FUTURE OF MUSIC? Singles are made to be hits, albums are made to be masterworks…let me think twice.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE:THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… mine.
