HOME BASE: Brooklyn, NY

GENRE: Rock

CATEGORIES ENTERED: Indie/Alt/Hard Rock Song, Music Video

WORK SUBMITTED: “Trigger Finger Itch” (from their debut EP Through the Mojo Wire)

LABEL: Unsigned

INFLUENCES: Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Red Hot Chili Peppers

WHAT’S THE MEANING OF YOUR BAND NAME? There’s no real significance to the name; any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. There was a long list of contenders, but Midnight Spin took them to the toolshed.

DESCRIBE YOUR NOMINATED WORK: A fast-paced punk/pop narrative with a very singable chorus. It’s definitely a fan-favorite.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT THIS WORK TO THE 10TH IMA’S?: We were sent an email after playing the CMJ festival in NYC last fall suggesting we submit. The fact that we were actually nominated is a huge surprise/honor since we’re relatively new to the scene. We can’t wait to hear what Ozzy thinks of “Trigger Finger Itch.”

DID YOU USE ANY UNUSUAL EFFECTS OR INSTRUMENTS IN THIS RECORDING? We tried some electric sitar in the studio, but that never made off the cutting board.

WERE THERE ANY HAPPY ACCIDENTS WHILE IN THE STUDIO, OR DID EVERYTHING GO AS PLANNED? We had a fun final day of tracking with Jack Daniels producing and house plants doubling as percussion.

DID FANS HELP YOU FUND THIS PROJECT? Fans with good jobs and big hearts.

WHO’S SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? Everybody stands, nobody sits.

WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? Their fingerprints.

ARE THERE ANY SONGS YOU WISH YOU WROTE? “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “We Will Rock You,” The Final Countdown,” “Eye of the Tiger” – we’d never have to work again.

WHAT ARTISTS ARE YOU LISTENING TO THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? Them, Joe Cocker, Sade, Wu-Tang, and Boston.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM SHOW LINEUP? To play – opening up for Pearl Jam and then the Stones. To see – a festival that never ends.

WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE ON THE ROAD? Jim and Mike indulge in smoking on the road because cigarettes are so expensive in NYC and cheap everywhere else. Jeremy stuffs his face with sour glo-worms, Danny snores, and Ben recites monologues from Independence Day.

ANY CLOSE CALLS OR MISHAPS WHILE ON TOUR? We blew out a tire on I-84 on our way to Boston and then the van was towed while we were playing our set. Mike got zapped by the microphone in Kentucky, and Danny played our first set in Chicago wearing nothing but a trash bag.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS BEFORE YOU GO ON STAGE? A couple spirits to loosen up, write a set-list. Otherwise, we’re too excited to get out there to waste time with a group-hug.

SHOULD MUSIC BE FREE? It’s free whether we like it or not…that doesn’t stop us from doing it though.

HOW HAS DIGITAL AFFECTED YOUR CAREER? You can email somebody your music and end up on an episode of “Jersey Shore” (true story). It’s like air (or a virus), it can go anywhere very quickly.

ARE DIGITAL SINGLES VS. FULL ALBUMS THE FUTURE OF MUSIC? It’s pretty cyclical, we’re currently in a singles dominated era, but the album as an art form will always be superior to the single.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… thirsty for Midnight Spin.
