HOMEBASE/COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

ALBUM NOMINATED SONG IS ON: The Les-Kils EP

ARTISTS ON THIS TRACK: More Or Les, Ghettosocks, Timbuktu (vocals), Fresh Kils (producer) and DJ Uncle Fester (turntables)

WHERE WAS SONG RECORDED? Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Hip-Hop, Rap, Conscious Rap, Thoughtful Rap, Kick-Ass Rap, Fun Rap, Deadly Rap

WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? Middle School Hip-Hop (roughly 1986 to 1992) and everything from that era that we like.

WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? Because people have forgotten about the Middle School, and the word must be spread.

WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? All the rappers on the track wrote small and even smaller verses, so we could mix it all up, to keep things fast-paced on a fast track.

WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? On CD Baby at http://cdbaby.com/cd/moreorles3, eMusic at http://www.emusic.com/artist/More-Or-Les-and-Fresh-Kils-MP3-Download/12374463.htm and of course, iTunes…..and Les’s knapsack

DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? Nope, but the Canadian government did- thanks FACTOR!

DESCRIBE YOUR AUDIENCE: Old enough to remember the Middle School, but young enough to enjoy it now.

WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? They appreciate beats and rhymes.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY?

For More Or Les: Reverb in Toronto (RIP Big Bop); Drake Underground in Toronto; The Green Room in Montreal; The Jazz Cafe in London, UK; and SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

For Fresh Kils: Call The Office (London, ON), The Paragon (Halifax), Rivoli (Toronto), The Pyramid (New York), The Space (Portland, MN).

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BAND’S MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

For More Or Les: Getting 4000 Frenchmen and Frenchwomen to throw their hands in the air and wave ‘em like they just didn’t care while performing with The Herbaliser in the country-side of France one hot summer night in 2006.

For Fresh Kils: Apart from the “Pop ‘N Chips” video itself, probably opening for Nas with Ghettosocks in Halifax at the Cunard Center in front of thousands.

WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010?

For More Or Les: Next full-album- Brunch (Served) with a Vengeance – due out in the summer, and a collaborative digital-only release: the Old’s Cool Mixtape – a re-visioning of classic Hip-Hop breaks (with new raps) – due out in the spring, and some surprises along the way.

For Fresh Kils: New Extremities EP (w/Uncle Fester), a “Fresh Kils Vs.” remix series, and production for D-Sisive, Muneshine, Timbuktu, Ghettosocks, More Or Les, Modulok, King Jus, Wordburglar, Bullet Tooth Tony, Sicktricks & more.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… In desperate need of stepping its game up online if it hopes to make money in the midst of torrents and free downloads. It needs to stop trying to strong-arm consumers through legislation and various forms of copyright law – they’re not fast enough and the average “target” is too poor for it to affect them all that much.

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS?

For More Or Les: Performing for decent-sized crowds and decent-sized pay. And people across the planet buying my music.

For Fresh Kils: In the music business, success means sustainability. For me though, at this point, success will mean that the sustainability I’ve achieved making music continues to grow.

WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS?
For More Or Les: Blondie, Feist, Ill Bill, The Police, and Tech 9ne – all on the same iPod (that’s what’s surprising).
Fresh Kils: Tool, Raphael Saadiq, Hall & Oates, Them Crooked Vultures, Twin Peaks Movie Soundtrack

NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU ARE CHAMPIONING: All members of our crew. Backburner, Jesse Dangerously, Wordburglar, Ghettosocks, the Toolshed, the Verbalz, Thesis Sahib, Ginzu 333, the Extremities), along with D-Sisive, Muneshine, DJ iRATE, Bullet Tooth Tony, El Da Sensei, The Herbalizer, King Jus, Modulok and Jesse Futerman.
