Shouting, humour, deep thought and abandonment are all a part of the one-of-a-kind music and performance of Pavlov’s Dog’s Orchestra. The debut release titled To Whom It May Concern is a powerful introduction to the scene. The style possesses no definition and it is limiting to describe this brand of music as any one thing. This energetic 7-piece band incorporates the typical rock instruments such as guitar, drums, bass and synth with traditional folk instruments including violin and hand-percussion. There are many references available to describe the bits and pieces of this style, but you must hear it to understand how the chemistry is at work here. The sound can only be described as one of a kind and incredibly enjoyable. With all members of the band hailing from Russia there is a distinct cultural influence that exercises clear sensitivities to North American music as well as traditional European and Slavic styles, this becomes one very strong ensemble with that combination…
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov conducted experimented with dogs, studying the relationship between salivation and digestion. By applying stimuli to the animals in a variety of ways he was able to make the animals salivate without the presence of food; a phenomenon he called the conditioned reflex.
PDO is a cultural musical crossover that tempts the reflexes of mathematical listeners and classic rock fans alike. Full of movement, energy, abandon and technical efficiency at the same time, this is truly an incredible band and a memorable show. Not being fans of the treatment that many dogs endured during Ivan Pavlov’s experiments, PDO has included links on their upcoming website to local pet adoption agencies in a public awareness effort.
Pavlov’s Dogs Orchestra is based in Toronto Canada where they work to consistently challenge peoples understanding of composition and performance while simply entertaining their fans. The songs flourish in their arrangement. They are dynamic and versatile while presenting a solid root to their sound and style. PDO is not easy to keep still and the undeniable energy of this band and the powerful live performances are infectious, inviting and incredibly entertaining.
