Describe your nominated work: Temptation is a collection of original compositions containing a number of extraordinary melodic and rhythmic ideas based upon modern tunes as well as the tunes rooted in the flamenco-gypsy, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean folk and Latin rhythms with textures of jazz conception. In my opinion, the Temptation is a wonderful gift for the admirers of world music and jazz, as well as for connoisseurs of really nice instrumental music. I was very flattered when I started to get warm references about this album. For example, the great guitarist Al Di Meola, having listened to Temptation, has proclaimed: “Good effort! Nice ideas here and there!,” and Britain guitar portal Acoustic guitar workshop has commented: “His Temptation CD is a testament to his brilliance. It’s a tour de force!”

Why did you choose to submit this work to The 10th IMA’s?: Because the single “Unforgiven” which was included to the album Temptation, was a World Traditional Song nominee last year. But I think whole album is brilliant, not just the one song! And I was very glad when album was nominated! It’s the big victory for me!

Did you use any unusual effects or instruments in this recording? All my guitars I used on the album record are unique and sounds very nice! It’s Wechter Florentine guitar, Vintage Ovation Custom Legend guitar, Carmen flamenco signature guitar, Vintage Gibson Les Paul guitar. Guitar synthesizers from Roland, as well helped. Additionally I use of cahon, darbuka, hand claps (even on my stomach (!) sometimes LOL), for pulse there.

Were there any happy accidents while in the studio, or did everything go as planned? Some of the tracks where recorded via internet tracks exchanging! For example, I never met Henrik Andersen or Daniel Fugueiredo, but we collaborated on this album! It’s fun! Also, I met Hernan Romero on our joint tour in Russia, but we already had collaborated on a joint recording of “Guitango” which is on album!

Did fans help you fund this project? No

Who’s sitting in your audience? Ages range from teen to 70s. My music speaks to a vast audience, I believe and I see this in sold-out concert halls during my frequent tours!

What makes your fans unique? I think my fans are unique in the way that they appreciate fine music, not the mainstream commercial plastic stuff that I feel is now on the radio. To play with such greats as Al Di Meola, I pride myself on my professionalism and it shows on stage. So, my fans share this common string with me. Young or old, they love good guitar music that speaks to them.

Are there any songs you wish you wrote? I just finished my new album Quasipsychedelic where I recorded some of such songs! I arranged and recorded my own versions of the soundtracks from old Soviet cartoons and films which I remember from my childhood.

What artists are you listening to that would surprise your fans? I like to listen rock music sometimes. Aerosmith, for example. Also I’m liking the latest albums of Michael Sanchez (ex-Deep Forest) very much.

What are your guilty pleasures on the road? I like to meet new people and discover new places! Last year I was on long-distance tour from Baikal Lake in Siberia to Paris, France! Very nice places and great people everywhere!

Any close calls or mishaps while on tour? Thanks God no close calls or mishaps during tours!

Do you have any rituals before you go on stage? Nothing paranormal, just practice on guitar and espresso-coffee before coming on the stage! :-)

Should music be free? NO! It’s very hard work! And audiences must understand that hard work needs to be compensated!

How has digital affected your career? I think all modern musicians’ careers depend on it now!

Are digital singles vs. full albums the future of music? Yes, I think everything will go to internet. If it’s good or bad, time will show!

Finish this sentence: The music industry is…a great opportunity to share your creativity with millions people!
