WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? We selected this track because we had just come back from our world-wide 2009 tour of China and thought you might enjoy listening to it.
WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? Theremin, Gong and Erhu–the traditional Chinese violin. We blindfolded ourselves while writing this song to get in tune with the inner cosmic voice. Next, we put electrodes on Horse Head’s chest and recorded his heart beat after his jumping jack routine for the basic drum track. Then, we synthesized the beat through an old moog synthesizer, ate big bowls of sweet snacks™ cereal, then we literally danced the song into existence!
DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? Yes, they did.
WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? They wear tennis shoes and sun visors, as far as we can tell. The stage lights are so hot and bright, it’s difficult to make them out because the sweat steams up our goggles and then our collective mind begins to melt into the huge sweaty pulsating masses that attend our ceremonial performances. But our audience members (or devotees, whichever you prefer) are basically happy when fed a proper diet of sweet snacks and allowed to dance it off.
WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? A lot of them are in utero, and we think that’s pretty unique. We’re dealing with the future here, people.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? Shanghai and Mick Jagger’s 65th birthday party.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE BAND’S MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? Being the first band to successfully tour in a time machine. Being produced by our hero, Jerry Casale of Devo.
WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010? We’ve actually already done 2010, we’ll be entering 2012 next year.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS…..A beautiful industry of colorful sonic wave forms reaching out hugging each other. It’s the first industry to produce products that can be stored in someone’s memory and be utterly priceless; an industry that has harnessed the energy of wild freedom. This song is the type of music I want to hear when I go dancing. Electronic music without a singer, without changes to the song bore me to tears! Sweet Snacks is the wave of the future, it is unique and fantastic! I love Sweet Snacks!
