WHERE WAS SONG RECORDED? The song was recorded in a small cabin on Galiano Island, off the coast of B.C. Canada.
WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? CD Baby, iTunes and local record stores in British Columbia and Washington.
WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Country, Folk and Roots. The music is always changing but that’s mostly what you’ll hear on Sumner Brothers.
WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? Paris Hilton. The influence of the media on the unassuming masses. Pop stars. Kings & Queens.
WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? It’s a popular one with our fans and at live shows so we figured maybe it would do ok with you guys
WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? We’ve used the same method for our last two records, Sumner Brothers and the one we are currently working on. We get a keg of beer and head for the sticks.
DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? They did in the sense that they keep coming to our shows and paying at the door. We use that money in turn to make records.
WHO’S SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE: We get a real mix to be honest, and play a lot of different types of shows. We get the types that will sit there and listen intently for a set and we get the types that spendmost the evening in the line-up for the bar. It doesn’t matter to us; we love ‘em all.
WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? They keep coming out. When we first started this thing, everyone told us “Your friends will come out to a few shows then you’ll have to start playing less” and so on and so forth. We’ve found the opposite. Our friends came out then they brought their friends and those folks brought theirs, etc.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? In the garage with my brother. After that, we play a bunch of annuals that are fun- Christmas, Halloween and one called ‘Old Bones,’ which started as a birthday party for a pal of ours and has since taken on a life of its own. Those three can get crazy and I enjoy that. We got a soft spot in our hearts for chaos.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE BANDS’ MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? Having one of our songs being nominated for Alt-Country Song at the IMAs.
WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010? We’re putting an album out in February, another cabin album. We’ve started putting it together up in the woods outside of Merritt B.C.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… Big and complicated.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? To be able to do make enough money at this to raise a family.
WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? God, I don’t know. I don’t think our fans would be surprised by too much at this point. The Streets, maybe.
NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU CHAMPIONING: The Star Captains are a local outfit, buddies of ours and great band. Phil Saylor Wisor is another, under the guise of ‘Stripmall Ballads’. Phil is also a pal of ours and by far one of the best, if not the best, singer song-writer, Rock and Roll torchbearer, we’ve ever played with.
