HOMEBASE/COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Liverpool, UK
ALBUM NOMINATED SONG IS ON: Wave If You’re Really There
ARTISTS ON THIS TRACK: Carl Brown, Tim Bruzon, Vidar Norheim, James Walsh
WHERE WAS SONG RECORDED? St. Bride’s church and my flat, Liverpool, UK
WHICH GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Electronic, Indie
WHAT’S THIS SONG ABOUT? Appreciating every moment with someone and living in the present.
WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS TRACK TO SUBMIT TO THE IMAs? It seems to get picked out by people without any prompting and it gets included in blogs more than any other song on our album. It also seems to appeal to people who might not ordinarily listen to the more ‘indie’ moments on our album.
WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS OR TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE ON THIS ALBUM? The percussion track was made by using my iPod headphones as a mic and tapping them on my table. Everything else was pretty conventional, I think. Apart from the drums, which were recorded in the church behind my flat, the song was recorded in my living room.
WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? US SHOPS: iTunes US and iTunes Canada, Napster, Rhapsody, eMusic, IMVU, Limewire store, Amie Street, Amazon mp3, Lala, Nokia.
DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT? No
WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? It seems to be a real mix of age groups. There’s a hard core in the UK who travel to our bigger gigs in London, and as we travel throughout Europe we are discovering lots of people who have spent time with and know our album intimately. It is rather surprising and quite delightful.
WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? Their exquisite taste.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO PLAY? Festivals in beautiful, out of the way places that we wouldn’t normally get a chance to visit, like Tromso in Norway where you can see the Northern lights.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE BAND’S MOST MEMORABLE ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? Taking our show, “Wave If You’re Really There,” to London and selling out the week before. It’s a highly ambitious meeting of genres, spoken word, performance art and live music colliding in the awe inspiring setting of St Leonard’s church in Shoreditch. It’s an unlikely combination but one that has proved hugely successful.
WHAT’S IN THE WORKS FOR 2010?
We are releasing the album in more territories throughout Europe and the rest of the world and will be touring to promote it. We are also working in between gigs to complete a second album which we are determined to release as soon as possible in 2010.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS….changing.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? The commercial exploitation of one project facilitating the creation of another.
WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? Dad’s Army Radio series (classic BBC comedy).
NAME SOME ARTISTS YOU ARE CHAMPIONING: Post War Years, Slow Club, Blue Roses.
