Sharing his time between Fremantle and Denmark/Albany, Xave Brown is a contemporary singer/songwriter of subtle, complex and powerful music. Xave’s bluesy acoustic tunes are finely crafted with layers of rhythm, intricate finger picking, and vocals that switch in an instant from a throaty growl to liquid honey. Raw and passionate, Xave is perfectly matched by the exquisite and hauntingly beautiful voice of backing singer, Caitlin Dethridge. An established performer in the southwest of WA, Xave regularly gigs on the local and Perth circuits as well as at major WA festivals including; Blues at Bridgetown, Nannup, Wignall’s Vintage Blues Festival, Broome Shinju Festival (2004) and the Harbour Sound Festival. As a solo performer Xave has played on Triple J and supported Paul Kelly, The John Butler Trio, Carus Thompson, Nathan Gaunt and toured with Ruby’s Grace and The Kill Devil Hills. His talents receive ongoing recognition from the music industry both in WA and nationally. Xave has recently been nominated as one of five finalists in the 8th ANNUAL INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS – winners to be announced in January 2009. In 2006, Xave won the 2006 WAM Regional Song of the Year for his single ‘Call of the Wild” which was also nominated in the top five in the 2007 national Musicoz Awards. ‘Call of the Wild’ has been included in the 2008 WAMI compilation CD . Title track off his first album ‘Black Smoke’ was included on both The Next Big Thing and WAMI compilation CDs in 2005/2007.
