Buddy Guy

Buddy Guy

George “Buddy” Guy is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a chief guitar influence to rock titans like Hendrix, Clapton, Beck and Vaughan, a pioneer of Chicago’s fabled West Side sound, and a living link to that city’s halcyon days of electric blues. In 1957, he moved to Chicago and within months had taken up residency in the 708 Club. He soon became a first-call session man at Chess Records, and began to cut records under his own name. After leaving Chess for Vanguard and releasing A Man and the Blues in 1968, Guy released no fewer than 20 records under his own name during the ‘70s and ‘80s, including collaborations with Junior Wells. In 1991, Guy released the smash Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues (reissued in 2005), which won a Grammy, and by ’94, he had won two more Grammys for his albums Feels Like Rain and Slippin’ In. His most recent releases include the guest-filled Bring ‘Em In (featuring the likes of Carlos Santana and John Mayer) and Guy’s first-ever box set, Can’t Quit the Blues. Guy was previously a judge for the 6th and 8th annual Independent Music Awards. Visit www.BuddyGuy.net for more.
